A Plant Room
Engineered to Perform

A poorly designed plant room costs money every day it runs — through excessive pressure drop, inadequate ventilation, undersized pipework, and poor drainage. Tranco Tech designs compressed air plant rooms from first principles, so your system performs as the compressor manufacturer intended from day one.

Why Design Matters

The compressor is only as good
as the room it sits in

Most compressor failures and performance complaints are not compressor problems. They are system problems — caused by insufficient ventilation leading to high ambient temperatures, undersized pipework creating excessive pressure drop, poor condensate drainage causing moisture in the distribution network, and equipment layouts that make maintenance difficult or dangerous.

A compressed air plant room engineered correctly from the outset eliminates these problems before the compressor is even switched on. It also protects the warranty — equipment operated in conditions outside the manufacturer’s specified parameters will not be covered.

Tranco Tech designs plant rooms from the information you provide about your available space, your compressed air demand, and your site conditions. The design is engineered — not estimated.

Common plant room problems we prevent

High ambient temperature
Insufficient ventilation causes the compressor to run hot, reducing efficiency, triggering high-temperature shutdowns, and accelerating lubricant degradation.
Pressure drop across the plant room
Undersized pipe diameters, excessive bends, or poorly arranged equipment create pressure losses that force the compressor to work harder and consume more energy.
Moisture carryover
Incorrectly positioned or poorly drained condensate points allow water to pass downstream, damaging air-operated equipment and contaminating products.
Difficult or unsafe maintenance access
Poor equipment layout reduces maintenance quality, increases service time, and creates safety hazards for the engineers who work on the system.
Design Scope

Every discipline,
engineered together

The scope of each plant room design engagement is agreed with the customer based on their specific requirements. All of the disciplines below can be included. Where Tranco Tech is also carrying out the installation, all design work is integrated into the installation project. Where the design is a standalone service, a schematic is produced for the customer or their chosen installer to work from.

Plant room layout & equipment arrangement
Equipment positioning based on your available space, access requirements, service clearances, and operational workflow. The layout is designed to make the system easy to operate and maintain — not just to fit the equipment in.
🔧
Compressed air pipework design
Pipe sizing calculations to minimise pressure drop across the plant room and into the distribution network. Ring main and sub-distribution design, isolation valve placement, condensate drainage points, and pressure gauge positions are all determined from first principles based on your flow rate and pressure requirements.
🌀
Ventilation & cooling design
Calculation of the ventilation airflow required to maintain ambient temperature within the BOGE operating specification, taking into account the heat rejection of all equipment in the plant room. Inlet and exhaust duct sizing, positioning, and routing are designed to prevent hot air recirculation. Standalone exhaust duct design and retrofit installation is also available as a separate service for existing plant rooms — see Hot Air Exhaust Duct Solutions.
Electrical design
Power supply routing, cable sizing, switchgear requirements, and control panel positioning. Designed in accordance with the BOGE installation manual and applicable local electrical regulations.
🏗
Civil works
Equipment bases, floor drainage, wall penetrations for pipework and exhaust ducting, and any structural works required to prepare the space for the installation — scoped and agreed with the customer before work begins.
Standalone design service
You do not have to engage Tranco Tech for the installation to benefit from our design capability. If you have your own contractor or prefer to manage the installation independently, we will provide a compressed air plant room schematic drawing based on your space and requirements. This gives your contractor a professionally engineered design to work from — and gives you confidence that the system is designed correctly.
How It Works

You provide the space.
We provide the plan.

The design process starts with what you have and what you need. Our engineers work from your site information to produce a design that fits your space, meets your compressed air requirements, and complies with BOGE installation specifications.

1
Site information & requirements
You provide details of the available space — dimensions, ceiling height, existing services, access points — along with your compressed air demand, required pressure, and air quality requirements. A site visit is arranged where needed.
2
Engineering design
Our engineers produce the plant room design covering all agreed disciplines — layout, pipework, ventilation, electrical, and civil. Equipment selection is finalised and the design is coordinated across all services to eliminate conflicts before work begins.
3
Installation
Where Tranco Tech is carrying out the installation, all work is executed in accordance with the design. Any site conditions that require design modifications are documented and agreed with the customer before proceeding.
4
As-built drawings on completion
Formal as-built drawings are produced and issued on completion of the installation — reflecting the system exactly as it was built, not as it was originally designed. These become the permanent reference document for the installation.

What to have ready when you contact us

Floor plan or dimensions of your proposed plant room space
Ceiling height and any overhead obstructions
Available electrical supply — voltage, phases, maximum amperage
Required compressed air flow rate (m³/min) and working pressure (bar)
Required air quality class if known (ISO 8573-1)
Any existing equipment to be retained or integrated
