The Two-Stage Principle

Closer to isothermal —
why two stages save energy

By dividing the compression process into two stages, the SE/SEF/SPF-2S achieves compression conditions that are closer to isothermal — the theoretical optimum. The result is up to 15% energy savings over equivalent single-stage compression.

Stage 1 Compression
Ambient air is drawn in and compressed by the first-stage airend to an intermediate pressure.

Intercooling
Compression heat from stage 1 is removed by cold lubricating oil, reducing air temperature before stage 2.

Stage 2 Compression
Cooler air enters the second-stage airend. Injected coolant further reduces temperature during final compression.

Outlet Pressure
Air is raised to the required outlet pressure. Cooler compression means less energy required at every stage.

It ensures minimal downtime for maintenance and longer intervals between inspections. The SE/SEF/SPF-2S combines the proven direct-drive reliability of the SE/SPF family with two-stage compression technology for maximum efficiency at higher power levels.

BOGE two-stage screw compressor is a high-efficiency compressor that achieves the best compression efficiency by dividing the compression process into two compression processes. The first stage compresses the ambient air to an intermediate pressure, which is used as the inlet pressure for the second stage compression. The second stage further compresses and raises the pressure to the required outlet pressure. In this process, the compression heat generated by the first stage compression is taken away by the cold lubricating oil, and the remaining compression heat is further cooled by the injected coolant entering the second stage airend, which reduces the temperature of the compressed air and greatly saves the energy required for compression. The entire compression process is closer to isothermal compression, and compared with single-stage compression, it can achieve energy savings of up to 15%. The rotor undergoes 20 processes of fine machining to ensure the accuracy, reliability and effectiveness of the rotor profile.
Consistently combating noise emissions: to decouple vibration and reduce sound levels, the drive motor, compressor stage and oil separation tank are elastically mounted on the base frame.
SE/SEF/SPF-2S series demonstrates easy maintenance with genuine BOGE spare parts. The easy access to maintenance components makes it straightforward to attend to regular maintenance with ease.

With focus control 2.0 you simply have everything under control, with the emphasis squarely on “simply”. Two-Stage Airend
By splitting compression into two stages with intercooling, the process approaches isothermal compression — the thermodynamic ideal. Energy savings of up to 15% over single-stage are achieved and sustained across the machine's operating life.
20-Process Fine Machined Rotors
Each rotor undergoes 20 processes of fine machining to ensure accuracy, reliability and effectiveness of the rotor profile — delivering consistent performance and efficiency throughout the compressor's working life.
SilentMount Suspension
Drive motor, compressor stage and oil separation tank are all elastically mounted on the base frame. Vibration is decoupled at source, protecting structure and pipework and ensuring noticeably quiet operation even at full load.
Direct 1:1 Drive
Airend and motor coupled directly at 1:1 — no belts, no gears, no intermediate wear components. Transmission efficiency is maximised and service intervals are extended significantly versus belt-driven alternatives.
Focus Control 2.0
Intelligent modular master control manages compressed air generation efficiently and coordinates up to four compressors as a combined system — reducing part-load running and maximising efficiency across the whole installation.
